What Sweet Scent Does

Outside battle, use Sweet Scent in an eligible wild-encounter area to trigger the Sweet Scent encounter assigned to that area. This makes it useful for repeated encounters, EV training, and Shiny hunting when the current location offers the target you need.

In battle, Sweet Scent is a Normal-type status move that harshly lowers the opposing Pokemon's Evasion. Its listed PP is 20, with a maximum of 32 after PP increases. This page does not state a separate overworld PP charge because that value was not independently confirmed for the current client.

Find Current Sweet Scent Encounters

Open the Pokedex and use Wild Locations for the target species. The July 2026 client lists Sweet Scent as its own encounter type and separates rates by morning, day, night, and season.

You can also use Current Location to see every species available where the character is standing. For EV training, the horde search lists locations that yield ten EVs of the selected stat per horde after that feature is unlocked by defeating one regional Elite Four.

What Changed in July 2026

The official Shiny Wars update comprehensively rebalanced spawn data across Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Unova. It added Sweet Scent-exclusive hordes to many areas and exposed more precise encounter data in the Pokedex.

That means a pre-update “best Sweet Scent spot” can have the wrong species, rate, season, time window, or EV yield. Read the full encounter update summary before planning a long farm.

Use It for Shiny Hunting

Sweet Scent increases the speed of checking the assigned encounter; it does not guarantee a Shiny. Use the PokeMMO Shiny odds calculator to model repeated encounter probability and enable only bonuses valid for the capture method.

During Shiny Wars 2026, the global +10% bonus applies to eligible wild encounters, while non-wild sources such as eggs are excluded. The in-game Dex remains the best source for deciding which current Sweet Scent encounter to target.
